- poi I'll set up the XMAS'02 pages this WE. Regarding the deadlines, I thought to something like ~7jan for submission and ~15jan for voting. But I'm open to all suggestions.
- tmb if you move the deadlines more to the summer direction, we better change the name of the compo :) I think a few weeks is more than enough for a 256b intro, IMO the idea takes the first week and the laziness the other week
- jazzman poi, thinking about including other platforms in the compo too? (talking about c64 of course =)
- poi TMB: indeed, that's a good idea for several reasons. It'll let me make some advertising about this compo. JAZZMAN: don't wory, I planed that. But I count on the people using alternative platform to help us see their prods
- jazzman cool, poi! i can help with c64 prods if you like me to. it's not difficult anyway... emulators are near perfect; virtually all c64 prods are emu-compatible
- Optimus Then perhaps I could bring a CPC 256b intro,. but there is a little problem with that.
- jazzman what problem?
- Optimus The smallest size a file occupies is 1KB because of the file system of the CPC OS. If you save a binary file of 1,5kb then it will occupy 2KBs on disk. And there is also an 128byte header on each binary, basic or ascii file. But anyways, I can give the source too which should be 256bytes and give an assembler for checking..
- jazzman can't you load the file directly into an emu (without disk image)? this way, you'd see that it's 256b immediately. q: max size = 256b or 384b?
- poi I'm not a fanatic of 256bytes, I mean I'm open to support several categories. Since CPC have a "physical" limit of 1K, well the SUMMER,,03 will have a 1K category.
- poi All the more that the deadlines of the SUMMER,,03 will give enough time to inform the "scene" of the contest.
- Optimus Jazzman: Yes,. if we don't care about physical space but only about how much I can fit in 256bytes of Z80 code, then the assembler of Winape32 emulator will be enough to show it's really 256b. No 384, but 256bytes. It only has the additional 128b header if you save into a file that the OS/Basic of CPC understands..
- Optimus poi: I beleive we could do Jazzman's idea,. in size optimization it is important how small the actuall machine code is and not the physical limit. With the same logic, a 256byte intro on PCs takes 4kb or more in the HD really, because of FAT16-32 limitations..
- Optimus I don't know if I will do CPC code stuff though. I am thinking it. I would prefer my 256byte entry to be a PC one, since I have a long time to code something there. Except if it's allowed to bring twoentries for the compo. If so, then I would be glad to make the first 256bytetro ever on CPC and tell you how to run it with WinAPE32 and check the actual size of the code..
- poi Optimus: You're right about the physical limits :p We'll go for Jazzman's idea. Regarding the number ofentries I think ONE IN EACH CATEGORY per coder would'nt be a bad thing.
- jazzman ok, i still don't get that 128b-header thing, but that's just because i don't know anything about CPC. give us those web pages, poi!
- Optimus Cool! I 'd like to code a CPC entry then. Btw,. are you planning for January? When? There isn't a page for it yet? Just want to know, to know if I catch up to sit down to code something..
- poi well, as TMB suggested, I rather thought to turn the XMAS'02 into SPRING,,03, with the deadline around 21st MARCH. I wish this deadline will give some time to more competitors to enter the compo
- insomniac poi, did you get the entry that I sent you?
- tmb poi: with that deadline you have to get me the possibility for moreentries (I already have something ready) :)
- tmb apologies for retarded grammar
- poi INSOMNIAC: yep. TMB: that's exactly the goal of that "late" deadline. And it'll gimme enough time to make the SPRING,,03 pages correctly and test them a minimum
- Optimus The "late" deadline is good news for me..
- fuse hey, thanks for adding our 256b :) the group name is "flare" btw :)
- Optimus And what is written then? Anything else than "flare"?

POST A ONELINER- Complete archive back ( at last )
It took 5 months, but I've received the message. Let's put the delay on the count of a new job + some freelance work + more professional contacts + some extreme boredom to touch a code that was working perfectly until the host changed the settings and rights with no warning.2005-06-05 by P01
- Recent problems
As many of you saw, there's been some problems recently with the downloads. I was away for almost a month for the birth of my nephew when the host of http://www.256b.com had no better idea than changing the configuration of PHP. Therefore all the prods with an ID above 402 are not available. Btw, I received 2800+ mails of errors and a handfull of inmates noticed me the bug too. I'll fix that as soon as possible. Meanwhile, happy new year!2005-01-02 by P01
- Page titles, new skin and other minor changes
One thing bugged me since a while : the title of the prods did not appear in the title of the pages. That thing is fixed. Adding a wildcard in the SEARCH input is not longer mandatory. Some minor things have changed in the XHTML/CSS. And I made a new skin for the site. Your feedback is welcome.2004-11-28 by P01
- Improvement of the search feature
Wildcards have been enabled in the SEARCH feature. You can use * or ? like anywhere else. At least that's a significant improvement until I code the Advanced Search feature to allow the search on any field ( name, coder, year, group, ... ).2004-10-21 by P01
- Hello CPC
256b.com welcomes its first Amstrad CPC intro. It's called "a bouncing pixel" ( http://www.256b.com/demo/463 ). You'll find the URL of an emulator in the LINKS sections and will btw see the new button I made for pouet.net few days ago.2004-10-18 by P01
